Positive #25 - To Rest from Work on the First Day of Passover
Show Notes

In this episode, we learn positive mitzvah #25, which is rest from work on the First Day of Passover.

  • This mitzvah applies to the 15th day of Nissan, which is the first day of Passover. Outside of Israel, it also applies to the second day of Passover.
  • This mitzvah is similar to positive mitzvah #20, which is to rest from work on Shabbat. However, there is one very important difference - food related melachot (work activities) are permitted on the first day of Pesach, which is referred to as ochel nefesh
  • For example, one is allowed to cook or bake on the first day of Pesach. Similarly, one is allowed to carry their food from one house to another on the first day of Pesach.
  • There are some exceptions to this ochel nefesh, which are discussed on the podcast.
